I get the output of:

hpacucli.exe ctrl all show config detail

emailed to me each day.

It now includes this line in the Smart Array P410i in Slot 0 (Embedded) section

Cache Status Details: A cache error was detected. Run a diagnostic report for more information.

As suggested I ran a diagnostic report which includes this warning in the Cache Config Status section:

Dirty Cache Line Unable To Flush To Drives

Can anyone tell me what I should fo to stop this warning being triggered?

The hpacucli.exe report includes no other errors. All the logical drives have status "OK".

Hello,

I've created 5,2 TB volume  on MSA2040. ESXi host can see this storage device (LUN) but it recognizes it's capacity as 4,66 TB. How it is possible? Where is 500 GB?

Thanks in advance!

MSA 60 Tone When Powered up

I picked up an MSA 60 as a cheap backup target.   When I power it up, it just emits a high pitched tone, like a bios error, that doesn't stop.    The seller says this is normal, but I have some other MSA models and none of them do this.

Does anyone have experience with these units and can tell me if you just hook up power (no SAS cables) does it emit a tone?

Thanks

Designing a shared storage with 1.5PB for two physical/virtual servers

Hi EveryOne,

I have a requirement of sizing a storage solution for 2 servers which are in Hyper-V. I have thought of many options like 3PAR. MSA, Even StorageOnce as NAS. But all these end up with huge cost or some other challange . Anyone has any idea to size a cheap solution for the below requirement.

I have the application server where it has to storage data of 1.5 PB. This server can be a virtual server inside Hyper-V with OS cluster or I can take out these server into 2 physical server with OS cluster. The storage requirement is to make a shared storage for my huge Data ( mainly files, video, documents etc..) which is about 1.5 PB usable( this is the data size after 5year and staring will be around 250TB). Which is the cheapest option available.

Also I need the same storage for DR and replication primary to DR. Even I can think of some double take solution if it is not available with storage

I have tried the below options,

1) 3 x MSA 2040 storage shared over SAN -> For this the price is ok but its take lots of rack space and moreover the single volume size is only 16TB.So so many volumes needs to be created.

2) 3PAR StoreServ. -> The only reason I cant choose this is because of high price.

3) This Option I thought with two or three D6020 enclosure attached to a DL 380 Server and using windows storage space feature make it as iSCSI storage and present to the Application server. -> Here the challange is , this solution is depends on the windows OS and its not meant for enterprise software defined storage.

4) The storevirtul option again need to have network RAID for high availability and one full set capacity has to dedicate only for HA.

Appreciate advice and suggestion from Experts on the above options or Even a better and cheap options .

Smart array p431 vs p822

I need to build a new storage system.

It will be based on Dl380p / Dl360p G8

I need to choose a smart array controller, actually hesitating between p822 and p431

p822 has internal connecteur that could be usefull for me. and smart cache standard

p431 is more recent and capable of write-back when smart cache enabled

My issue is that I can't find anywhere what are the perf of both (max iops....). I was able to find it for p420 (i guess p822 will be close to that) but nothing for P822

Globally, is there a doc that compile perfs and difference of different smart array controller?

Thanks

Serial Number on MSAP2000 G3

I need to get the serial number off the unit, however it appears that its on top of the chassis?  Is there any other way to obtain the serial?  Seems very inconvinient to have to unrack the unit to get the serial.  Also, I cannot log in via SSH, due to a faulty controller I believe, which is what has prompted me to get support.

Any help appreciated!

When planning a power failure in the building, we had to turn off the HP P2000 G3 MSA Array Systems (2 controllers and 2 power supply unit). When the LED on the front panel of the figure 8.

Behind PUF flashes orange. Login to the web interface can not be on one controller. In putty can be connected to any controller, first login, but in the performance of any team, does not give any result. If you pull out a broken controller, the HP MSA P2000 G3 works. Tried to swap flash, replace the batteries in the controller, the controllers were reversed, I tried to run only broken the controller - there is no result. The logs only this error - Supercapacitor failure. Status cell 1voltage is too high (24). Article: failure (12) (p2: 3088 (or 3190,3283,3317,3139,3232), p3: 0).

How to get via snmp the Read Hard Errors from (since reset)

We were using the OID: .1.3.6.1.4.1.232.3.2.5.1.1.16 to get the Read Hard Errors from our storage nodes P4530 but it seems that this OID get only the value from the "since Factory" and not from "since reset" values of the ADU report.

Is there any way to get the actual Read Hard Errors of the drive from "since reset" so we can have the actual picture of its status?

P420 plastic seperator

Hi,

I recently purchased a HP P420 raid card. It came with a piece of clear removable plastic in between the raid card and the cache module. I'm just wondering whether this should be removed before operation?

The card is running a bit hot at the moment (85 degrees celcius at idle) and I'm concerned that this might be preventing heat from dissipating properly from certain parts of the board.
