The server storage configuration best practice for large LUN on Windows ?

$

Hi All,

I've just installed  HP Storage D2600 Disk Enclosure that is filled with 12x 3 TB disks, to be used as backup server.

Mostly the file size will be very large greater than 1 GB up to 4-6 TB.

The File system will be NTFS, so I wonder here if anyone can assist me with the best practice for configuring the LUN for the RAID stripe size as per below:

Thanks in advance.

The option is selectable in Smart Storage Administrator

Thank you for your ASAP response.

Missing Driver for HSV210 scsi array controller device

I have installed command view 10.3.8 on the following Proliant server

HP Server Model :

Product: HP DL380G5 CTO Chassis

Product number: 391835-B21.

But I was not able to get the command view to discover the EVA8100.

However the window is able to see the vdisks presented to the Proliant server from my old command view server.

From the windows in the server, the device manager shows that ? question mark on the Driver for HSV210 Scsi Array controller device.

Where can I get the driver for the following?

is this the cause of the command view not able to discover the EVA8100.

Please help!

HP storageworks 2120 alternative SCSI ID's AND AlphaServer device name renaming

$

Hello all,

I am new to this forum so first i would like to send greetings to you all :)

I have a problem , i am building a simple external SCSI storage for an DEC AlphaServer consisting of two drives.

The first drive should be DKA0 and the second DKA100 - this is a mandatory requirement.

I am using he HP StorageWorks 2120 , but the SCSI id's assigned are increased by two from drive to drive.

I mean (DKA0,DKA200,DKA400,DKA600) which is not good for my software needs.

So here comes question number one, can i somehow assign of change the configuration of the 2120 by means of software or firmware update to assign a consistent SCSI id's as 0,1,3,4 so the AlphaServer will assign a DKA0,DKA100,DKA200,DKA300 to the devices.

If the above step is not possible , is there any possibility in AlphaServer SRM configuration to assign a different device name to a specific SCSI id ? I mean :

if the dka0,0,18,0 assigned as DKA0 and the dka200,2,0,18,0 is assigned as DKA200 by the Alpha , can i rename the device name of SCSI device dka200,2,0,18,0 to get the DKA100 name ? This way i will assign DKA0 and DKA100 to SCSI devices dka0,0,18,0 and dka200,2,18,0 from the StorageWorks which will work fine for me.

Thanks all in advance.

Removing Physical Disk from Logical Drive

$

Hi,

We have a HP ProLiant G380p Gen8 with a Smart Array P420i.

We have a RAID5 array with 4 physical disks setup as 1 logical drive.

I recently added a new disk, which is all working fine.  However I need to remove this physical disk out of the logical drive as I want to do something else with it.

Can I remove the physical disk out of the logical drive and the array?  I can see any option to do this.

I've been using the Smart Array Administrator GUI for this.

Thanks

Replace Power Supply on EVA 4400

Good day, colleagues!

Recently we are install new power supply on the storage system EVA 4400. And now power turned on,   LED is Green,  but in StorageWorks Command View EVA  operational state of PS2: Not installed.

What can be caused of this status ?

Three times replacing the Array controller (because the cache is integrated on the controller itself) plus the battery. Could this be the motherboard issue now. Updating the firmware has not helped either?

D3700 with H241 Smart Hostbusadapter - Which mode?

Hello, We want to connect an existing H241 Smart Host Bus Adapter to a new D3700 with SFF hard drives. A library MSL 2024 is already connected to the H241. The H241 is now running in HBA mode. Can the D3700 be connected with a cable to the second port in the HBA mode? I am aware that then the redundancy of the controller is not ensured.

Missing Delete Logical Drive button ?

People,

I'm trying to reconfigure the Strip Size / Full Stripe Size of an existing LUNs, but somehow I've found something that is confusing.

In some of the Logical Drive I mark with the red, when you click on those two logical drives in the screenshot below, the Delete Logical Drive is missing ?

Logical.JPG

But when you click on the Logical Drive 3 as shown above, the delete button is there.

Does this also means when I need to change the Strip Size / Full Stripe Size of Logical Drive 1,2 and 3 I will need to delete all of them destroying all of the data ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bytes Per Physical Sector ?

Hi People,

I have attached few D2600 and D2700 DAS to my HP DL 385 G7 using P411, but somehow all of the File System Info shows:

command: fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo D:

Bytes Per Physical Sector <Not supported>

So I wonder what is the type of the disks in those DAE ?

Thanks in advance.

HP SAS 2tb disk predicted to fail soon, need recover data in it...

Here's my problem hope some one can put me in the correct path...

I have 2 Proliant DL180 G6 servers with almost identical hardware, but the Hard Drives

-No.1 have only one 2tb sas disk with VMvare ESXI 5.0 (predicted to fail soon)

-No.2 Have 2 2Tb sas disk in Raid mirror with Wndows Server 2008 R2.

I took the fail HD from the ESXI server and put it on the Windows Server, it read the disk and mounted 3 logcal disk with some data from ESXI server but obviously not the Linux partition where ESXI stored the data of my virtual machine that I need to recover.

But my problem is when I tryed to put back the Fail HD to his original Server, it says that no have any logical hd in the P410 Smart Controller, and I'm affraid if I do a logical drive may I will lose the HD data?

Can some one help me?
