D2700 Implementation - is it straightforward?

$

Hello all

I am about to add a D2700 with a HP222A SAS controller into a file server that's a DL380p gen8 (Windows 2008 R2) to increase the amount of direct storage available on the machine.

Does anyone know if there are any issues with first installing the card, updating the firmware for the card, and then connecting the storage and configuring? How much downtime should I factor in?

Predictive failure on Smart Array P411 - once again

Hi,

our Server is an HP ProLiant DL160 G6, Smart Array P411/512 MB SAS RAID-Controller with BBU-Unit,  running Vmware ESXi 6.

Running hpssacli displays the following:

Smart Array P411 in Slot 4

   array A

      Logical Drive: 1
         Size: 931.5 GB
         Fault Tolerance: 1
         Heads: 255
         Sectors Per Track: 32
         Cylinders: 65535
         Strip Size: 128 KB
         Full Stripe Size: 128 KB
         Status: OK
         Caching: Enabled
         Unique Identifier: 600508B10010543953595A3959520300
         Logical Drive Label: A04A2EA5PACCT9SYZ9YRCEB2
         Mirror Group 1:
            physicaldrive 2E:0:5 (port 2E:box 0:bay 5, SATA, 1 TB, OK)
         Mirror Group 2:
            physicaldrive 2E:0:6 (port 2E:box 0:bay 6, SATA, 1 TB, Predictive Failure)
         Drive Type: Data
         LD Acceleration Method: Controller Cache

What are the next steps right now?

Can the Harddisk be replaced while it's running or do we have to shutdown the server? Are there further steps required after inserting the new drive? Should the drive to be replaced definitely or is it possible to repair it by the controller?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Smart Array P410 firmware update from 3.50 to 6.64?

I have been investigating a performance problem on a Windows SBS 2011 virtual server hosted on a Microsoft Windows Hyper-V 2012 R2 server host. The virtual machine and virtual hard drive files are stored in a RAID5 array running on a Smart Array P410 controller.

To cut a long story short I used HPSSACLI to determine that one of the drives has a status of 'Predictive Failure' but also noticed that this controller is running firmware version 3.50. The latest is currently 6.64.

My question is: "Is it safe to upgrade the firmware directly from 3..50 to 6.64?

how to monitor mds 600 disk array

We have  rack mounted c7000 G2 Bladecenters. Attached to the bladecenter are two MDS 600 external disk arrays.  We can monitor the bladecenter, blades  and disks inside the mds600  with a combination of insight management agents and SCOM 2012 R2 management packs. What it looks like to me is we can't monitor the mds 600 enclosure itself for over temp conditions, fan or power supply faults etc. I notice those errors do show up on a led display on the back but we have a number of mds 600's at offsite locations.

I looked through the mds600 documentation and they only mentioned hard drive errors using Insight management agents. Is there a way to monitor the mds600 itself?

HP Array P410, HDD changed, but still predict to fail soon

On HP Proliant DL G6, one disk in RAID 1 on P410 array broken. It was HP EG0300FBDBR. I changed it on compatible HP model - HP EG0300FAWHV. (both 300 Gb, 10K)

But HP Array Configuration Utility still show me - that new HP EG0300FAWHV - 300 GB 2-Port SAS Drive at Port 1I : Box 1 : Bay 0 is predicted to fail soon.

New disk in server blinking green - is like "The drive is rebuilding, erasing, or it is part of an array that is undergoing capacity expansion or stripe migration."

But two days gone and status didn't change.

P2000 G3 Migrating to MSA1040

I´m on a tight budget and need to migrate to a new storage as mine is no longer under warranty and costs to renew are absurd, I just want to know if the disks on the P2000 G3 are compatible with the MSA1040, of course them being the same form factor (3.5"/SAS), reading the "Upgrading to the HPE MSA 1040 or HPE MSA 2040" its seems they are compatible but I just need to be sure.

The plans is not to just change the controller but buy the whole MSA1040

The HD I have on the P2000 G3 are:

MSA 2040 reorganisation of disks

Hi all,

We have an MSA2040 with 2 additional shelves. It's populated with 300GB SAS disks.

I need to install SSD drives to improve performance on our VMware clones, and the reseller tells me I need to install these onto the MSA itself which I have no doubt is correct. However, I have 3 vdisks that use disks on the MSA as well as on other shelves (so the vdisk uses disks spread across shelves). Is there a way to move these around natively without having to build new vdisks and migrating data on the VMware side? Can any of this be done on the SMU side?

Thanks

Anthony

Smart Array P410i warning "Dirty Cache Line Unable To Flush To Drives"

I get the output of:

hpacucli.exe ctrl all show config detail

emailed to me each day.

It now includes this line in the Smart Array P410i in Slot 0 (Embedded) section

Cache Status Details: A cache error was detected. Run a diagnostic report for more information.

As suggested I ran a diagnostic report which includes this warning in the Cache Config Status section:

Dirty Cache Line Unable To Flush To Drives

Can anyone tell me what I should fo to stop this warning being triggered?

The hpacucli.exe report includes no other errors. All the logical drives have status "OK".

I am having two issues.

1.

The controller cannot be configured. CACHE STATUS PROBLEM DETECTED:...

…The cache on this controller has a problem. To prevent data loss, configuration changes to this controller are not allowed. Please replace the cache to be able to continue to configure this controller.

2.

It's not detecting my logical drive, it was there yesterday but now its not there today.

I have attached the Adu report, please help!

HP D6000 Disk array questions

Hi All,

I have two questions about the D6000

1) What is the actual speed of the SAS and SATA drives connected to the D6000 sas expander ?

2) Is the D6000 compatible with g6/g7 blades running the p700m controllers ?

We use 6g SAS and SATA disks in the older MDS600 and we get 6G sas drives attached at 3G sas and 6G SATA drives connected at 1.5G sas in the mds600 expander :-(

Help with RAID status/drive failure on DL 360 G7 with Storageworks D2600 runnign VMWare..

Hi all,

Inherited a server running VMWare (standard build not HP) and I've got a drive with a amber failure light in the Storageworks array.

Given it's running VMWare O/S there is no ACU and iLo 3 doesn't give me anything to work with so..

My questions are;

1. Does the above support hot-swop capability? I don't have information about the SAS RAID card installed unfortunately..

2. Is there any way of booting into media that will give me the ACU? Ideally I want to take a look at the RAID status before pulling a drive - all of the lights on other drives are flashing blue (although they are so dim it's a little hard to tell) but I'd hate to pop a drive and kill the array (it's RAID 10 apparently..)

No error lights on the Storageworks unit at all, just one of the drives

Any advice would really be appreciated as killing this array would cause massive pain..

Regards,

Simon

D2700 compatible 1.2TB drive

Is this part number for a 1.2TB 2.5 SAS Hard Drive compatible with the D2700 Storage Enclosure, if so great, if not which part number do I need?

HP 1.2TB 6G SAS 10K rpm SFF (2.5-inch) SC Dual Port Enterprise 3yr Warranty Hard Drive

I'm looking for 1.2TB drives and this model says "smart carrir" but at the same time says is backward compatible, so it's a bit confusing?

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5816277

"They are available in HP Smart Carrier, HP Standard Hot Plug Carrier and HP Non-hot Plug Carrier."

"HP Smart Carrier for HP ProLiant Servers (both Gen8 and Gen9 are supported). They maintain backward compatibility with existing standard hot-plug carriers to provide support for HP ProLiant G7 and earlier servers and server storage enclosures."

Moving a D6000 from one server to another

Hi,

We have a D6000 currently connected to a g7 and will be moving it to a g8

Will moving it destroy the raids and arrays or will it simply present the same volumes etc to the new server?

Thanks

D2600 connect to separate Windows 2008 servers

Is it possible to move D2600 (single or cascaded) disk array from one server to another, each containing a SmartArray P812 controller?  Or better yet, connect the D2600 to both servers simultaneously. ie- the P812s are set up the same on each server, and the volume information is on the disk array, it seems like the D2600 could be moved from one server to a backup server without damage to the volume(s).

Extending an array across 2 controllers?

Hi, I have a 4 disk RAID1/0 array on my internal P410i controller, and have recently attached a StorageWorks via a P420.  The StorageWorks has 8 disks in it which I would like to extend the existing RAID1/0 on the P410i.

Is this possible and how because I cannot for the life of me see how to do it!!

Need help setting up an A3312A Jamacia enclosure

Salutations,

This is my first post on this forum so if this thread is in the wrong section please inform me. Here is the scenario currently I am attempting to set up the A3312A enclosure. I need a little help troubleshooting though, so I begain by setting the bus's for each drive bay i numbered them 0-8 (skipped 7) then I put 4 A3714AM 18.2 gb se hard drives in the unit. I also put a scsi cord from bay a to bay b to bridge the bus's and installed a terminator on the last open slot. I am using a scsi vhdci to lvd cord to connect the array to a proliant dl380 g4. I cannot get the drives to show up. I have tried using multiple cards including a HVD card but cannot get the drives to show up in the bios. Any help would be greatly apprecated. I have a full warehouse of parts at my disposal so if it is beyond configuration and hardware related suggested replacement part numbers would be a great help.

Thank you,

B

Moving D2600 from one server to another

Hello everyone,

We recently tried to move our D2700 DAS StorageWorks from a ProLiant DL380 G5 to a ProLiant DL380p G8 without much success. Instead of having one raid disk, we had all of the disks inside the DAS seperatly. It seems that it didn't saw the raid configuration and showed me all the disks.

On both servers we have ACU installed only the G5 server can't start the ACU (Array Configuration Utility) application so we don't even know what kind of raid has been installed on it.

As the new IT guy in this company I have been given the job to move the DAS, but without any documentation on the current situation and ACU not working on the G5 server I'm having a hard time. I'm afraid that when I remove and reinstall ACU that it will also remove the raid configuration.

Can I reinstall ACU without losing the raid config and am I doing the migration right?
