HP Smart Array P410 in HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF, card not found in Device Manager

$

Hi Everyone,

I have recently purchased a HP P410 card and a HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF machine that i am setting up as a home server. I have plugged the card in and been able to configure the RAID array and logical drive in the RAID BIOS however the card or the logical drive does not show in Device Manager / Disk Manager? I have tried several different versions of Windows and lots of different downloads from the HP Support Centre and nothing is working! It is almost like the card is not plugged in? Is there a BIOS setting that I need to check?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Replace 3Par with Direct Attached Storage

Hello,

so one of our partners suggested us to order a new 3Par SAN for our VMWare infrastructure and HDD based backup

  • Datacenter A
    - HP 3Par 7200c
    56x 900GB SAS 10k SFF
    36x 2TB 7.2k LFF
    8x 1.92 B cMLC SSD SFF
software: application suite for VMware, replication suite, data optimization suite, reporting suite

    - HP StoreOnce 4900 60TB for backup
  • Datacenter B
- HP 3Par 7400c
192 x 1.2TB SAS 10k SFF
108 x 4TB 7.2k LFF
32 x 1.92TB cMLC SSD SFF
software: application suite for VMware, replication suite, data optimization suite, reporting suite

- HP StoreOnce 4900 60TB for backup

Well, this is the Direct Attached Storage forum. And I like the idea of DAS itself. So, I really like to use DAS for VMWare and for backup.

  • Is it possible to reach the same performance with DAS systems as with 3Par?

   => Of course it is

  • Is it possible to reach the same performance and feature set with HP DAS? What features won´t work?
  • Which DAS system would you recommend?
  • Does anyone have a kind of HP DAS configurator I can use for calculating a HP DAS system? (e.g. like the HP networking configurator or an dynamic excel sheet)

DC power supplies for a D2700?

$

I can't find a reference to anything that says these exist.  I see that the D2700 takes a "common slot" PSU, and there's a DC chassis for a P2000 (to which the DC D2700 attaches), but there isn't a VDC power supply listed in the D2000 quickspecs (for either the D2600 or D2700), so i'm concerned that i'll blow something up if I try it.  Can anyone help steer me in the right direction?

Basically what we have is 4 of these D2700s attached to a DL360pG8, and will soon moving everything to a DC power environment.  The current PSU in everything (G8 and D2700) is a 460W VAC PSU.  The smallest VDC version is 750W, and if that will work for both of these systems, that would be great.

Thanks!

Smart Array P410 firmware update from 3.50 to 6.64?

I have been investigating a performance problem on a Windows SBS 2011 virtual server hosted on a Microsoft Windows Hyper-V 2012 R2 server host. The virtual machine and virtual hard drive files are stored in a RAID5 array running on a Smart Array P410 controller.

To cut a long story short I used HPSSACLI to determine that one of the drives has a status of 'Predictive Failure' but also noticed that this controller is running firmware version 3.50. The latest is currently 6.64.

My question is: "Is it safe to upgrade the firmware directly from 3..50 to 6.64?

MSA 2040 reorganisation of disks

$

Hi all,

We have an MSA2040 with 2 additional shelves. It's populated with 300GB SAS disks.

I need to install SSD drives to improve performance on our VMware clones, and the reseller tells me I need to install these onto the MSA itself which I have no doubt is correct. However, I have 3 vdisks that use disks on the MSA as well as on other shelves (so the vdisk uses disks spread across shelves). Is there a way to move these around natively without having to build new vdisks and migrating data on the VMware side? Can any of this be done on the SMU side?

Thanks

Anthony

Smart Array P410i warning "Dirty Cache Line Unable To Flush To Drives"

I get the output of:

hpacucli.exe ctrl all show config detail

emailed to me each day.

It now includes this line in the Smart Array P410i in Slot 0 (Embedded) section

Cache Status Details: A cache error was detected. Run a diagnostic report for more information.

As suggested I ran a diagnostic report which includes this warning in the Cache Config Status section:

Dirty Cache Line Unable To Flush To Drives

Can anyone tell me what I should fo to stop this warning being triggered?

The hpacucli.exe report includes no other errors. All the logical drives have status "OK".

Help with RAID status/drive failure on DL 360 G7 with Storageworks D2600 runnign VMWare..

$

Hi all,

Inherited a server running VMWare (standard build not HP) and I've got a drive with a amber failure light in the Storageworks array.

Given it's running VMWare O/S there is no ACU and iLo 3 doesn't give me anything to work with so..

My questions are;

1. Does the above support hot-swop capability? I don't have information about the SAS RAID card installed unfortunately..

2. Is there any way of booting into media that will give me the ACU? Ideally I want to take a look at the RAID status before pulling a drive - all of the lights on other drives are flashing blue (although they are so dim it's a little hard to tell) but I'd hate to pop a drive and kill the array (it's RAID 10 apparently..)

No error lights on the Storageworks unit at all, just one of the drives

Any advice would really be appreciated as killing this array would cause massive pain..

Regards,

Simon

MSA 2324FC with SAS attached MSA60 shelf

$

Hello All, I am trying to repurpose some old kit we have laying around to build some simple storage for Veeam backups. I have a MSA 2324FC with dual controllers, 24x300GB SAS disks along with 2 MSA60 shelves with 12 x 1TB drives in each enclosure.

I have all cabled up and managed to reset to factory defaults on both controllers, created vdisks on both the 2324 and the MSA60's. and while the cli responds fairly quickly, the gui is incredibly slow. taking upto 5 mins to show changes.

Also the logs are filling up with EMP errors from both MSA60 shelves.

My main question is, is this a feasible combination of controllers and shelves (i know normally MSA70 shelves are used)

Is the delay in the gui because of the new hardware and vdisk initililazation tasks running?

Cheers

Darren

RAID5 - Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress - taking long time...

$

Hi everyone.

I have a client who has a raid 5 with 3 physical disks.  One of the disks just failed, and we have swapped it with a new disk.  Within the Status Alerts of the Array configuration Utility we are getting the message below:

Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on Logical Drive 2 (558.7 GB, RAID 5). If background parity initialization is queued, it will start when I/O is performed on the drive. When background parity initialization completes, the performance of the logical drive will improve.

It has been there for 8 hours so far - is there anything I must do?

Please advise.

Thanks!

Chris

Hi,

We have a D6000 currently connected to a g7 and will be moving it to a g8

Will moving it destroy the raids and arrays or will it simply present the same volumes etc to the new server?

Thanks

Is this part number for a 1.2TB 2.5 SAS Hard Drive compatible with the D2700 Storage Enclosure, if so great, if not which part number do I need?

718162 - B21
HP 1.2TB 6G SAS 10K rpm SFF (2.5-inch) SC Dual Port Enterprise 3yr Warranty Hard Drive

I'm looking for 1.2TB drives and this model says "smart carrir" but at the same time says is backward compatible, so it's a bit confusing?

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=5816277

"They are available in HP Smart Carrier, HP Standard Hot Plug Carrier and HP Non-hot Plug Carrier."

"HP Smart Carrier for HP ProLiant Servers (both Gen8 and Gen9 are supported). They maintain backward compatibility with existing standard hot-plug carriers to provide support for HP ProLiant G7 and earlier servers and server storage enclosures."
